How To Add A New Profile In Netscape Communicator 4.78
Introduction
These instructions and screenshots are specific to Netscape Communicator 4.78,
but may work with other versions.
The first time you start either the Netscape Messenger or Navigator applications,
the "Create a New Profile" dialogue will be displayed automatically.
If you already have an existing profile, and you wish to create another, you must first
start the "User Profile Manager". To do this click on Start, then Programs, then
Netscape Communicator, then Utilities, and finally User Profile Manager. In the
Profile Manager window click on New.
If you already have an existing profile, and need to edit existing Email options,
Create a New Profile
I would recommend reading the text displayed, as it will explain what exactly a
Netscape Profile is for. Once you have finished reading the text click "Next" to
continue. You will then be prompted to supply information that will allow Netscape
Communicator to configure your email settings.
Enter Your Name and Email Address
The first two pieces of information will be requested are your name and email address.
The name that you provide, will be the name displayed when someone receives an email
from this profile, and the email address will be the Reply-To address so that email
sent from this profile, can be directed back to you. Click "Next" to continue.
Choose a Name and Directory for your Profile
The name you choose for your profile is just an easy way for you to differentiate
between multiple Netscape Communicator profiles on your computer. Netscape will never
use this information in any email that that you send. I would recommend using the
default directory suggested to store your profile, unless you know what you are doing.
Click "Next" to continue.
Set up your Outgoing Mail Server
This is the server that will be contacted when you send an email. Unless you have made
prior arrangements with us, our mail servers will not allow you to send mail through it.
We recommend that you use your Internet Service Provider's (ISP) mail server as your outgoing
mail server. I have included the mail servers for Access Communications and Sasktel at
the end of this section. If you do not know what your outgoing mail server should be,
contact the technical support line for your ISP, and they will be able to provide you
with that information. Click "Next" to continue.
Local ISP SMTP Servers
Access Communications - smtp.accesscomm.ca
Sasktel - smtp.sk.sympatico.ca
Sasktel High Speed Business - mail.qlo.com
Set up your Incoming Mail Server
This is the server where mail that has been sent to your email account, that is being
hosted by us, waits to be collected from. This will be your domain name prepended by
"mail.", in the image below, you will see an example for the domain whatevercomputes.com.
Also you need to provide the user name that is associated with your email address on
the mail server. This information will be provided by Whatever Computes when we initially
setup your email account. Your user name is also sometimes referred to as your login,
or account name. You must also ensure that POP3 has been selected as your "Mail Server type",
as illustrated below. At this point, you have now entered all the required information to
be able to send and receive email using this Netscape Communicator profile, click "Finish"
to complete the new profile.
Once you have setup one profile, Netscape Communicator will use this as the default profile.
If you setup multiple profiles, the User Profile Manager will be displayed so that you can
select which profile you would like to load.
