How To Edit Your Email Settings In Netscape Communicator 4.78

Introduction
These instructions and screenshots are specific to Netscape Communicator 4.78, but may work with other versions.

Netscape Communicator 4.78 does not have the capability to maintain multiple POP Email accounts in one profile. This 'How To' will only be covering how to edit the Email settings of an existing profile. If you require assistance with creating a new profile, please click here.

Editing Your Preferences
Once you have the Netscape Messenger application displayed on your screen, near the top left of the display you will see the word "Edit", click on it. This will cause a dropdown menu to appear, and at the very bottom of this menu, the word "Preferences", click on it. The following window will be displayed

Editing Your Email Identity
In the Preferences window click on Identity, from here you can change the name displayed to the recipient of an email sent from this profile, as well as change your email address.

Editing Your Incoming Email Server
In the Preferences window click on Mail Servers, in the right pane, you will see "Incoming Mail Servers", click on the Edit button to the right. This is the server where mail that has been sent to your email account, that is being hosted by us, waits to be collected from. This will be your domain name prepended by "mail.", in the image below, you will see an example for the domain whatevercomputes.com. Also you need to provide the user name that is associated with your email address on the mail server. This information will be provided by Whatever Computes when we initially setup your email account. Your user name is also sometimes referred to as your login, or account name. You must also ensure that POP3 has been selected as your "Server Type", as illustrated below. Click "OK" to commit the changes.

Editing Your Outgoing Email Server
In the Preferences window click on Mail Servers, halfway down the window in the right pane you will see "Outgoing Mail Server".
This is the server that will be contacted when you send an email. Unless you have made prior arrangements with us, our mail servers will not allow you to send mail through it. We recommend that you use your Internet Service Provider's (ISP) mail server as your outgoing mail server. I have included the mail servers for Access Communications and Sasktel at the end of this section. If you do not know what your outgoing mail server should be, contact the technical support line for your ISP, and they will be able to provide you with that information. Click "OK" to commit the changes.

Local ISP SMTP Servers
Access Communications - smtp.accesscomm.ca
Sasktel - smtp.sk.sympatico.ca
Sasktel High Speed Business - mail.qlo.com

This How To will not go into discussion on the other preferences that can be changed, the built in Help documentation can be accessed within Netscape Messenger at any time by pressing the "F1" key.
