Set Up Microsoft Outlook Express Email

How To Add A New Email Account To MicroSoft Outlook Express 5

These instructions and screenshots are specific to Outlook Express 5, but may work with other versions.

To begin, open the Outlook Express application. You can do this by clicking on the Start button, and click on Programs and then the Outlook Express icon. When you have the program open, you may see a window appear, prompting you for information, if this is your first time using Outlook Express. If this does happen, please proceed to step 3. However, if you do not, please click on the Tools menu. You should get the same picture as the one below.

1. Click on the item named Accounts. From there you should see the picture below. You will want to click on the Mail tab as displayed in the picture.

2. Click on the Add button to the left and select mail.

3. The first step involves entering a name to associate with your e-mail account. This is the name that will appear when people receive e-mail from you. Press next to continue to the next step.

4. The next step involves entering your email address. This would be your username, that was provided when your account was setup, prepended to your domain name. For example if your domain is crazycars.net, and your username is mike, you would enter mike@crazycars.net. Make sure not to enter any extra spaces or periods. Click next to continue.

5. Next you will enter the mail servers. These are the servers that will send and receive your email. You will first want to make sure the drop down box indicates a POP3 server. In the next box, you will enter mail.yourdomain.com, in our example mail.crazycars.net, this is your incoming mail server. In the next box, please enter your ISP's or other arranged SMTP server, in the image displayed, the user is an Access Communications customer. This information can be obtained by contacting your ISP technical support, or your network administrator. If you require assistance, do not hesitate to contact us. Click next to continue.

6. In this step you will enter your username (also known as a login) in the area indicated by "Account name". In the next box enter the password for your e-mail account. You will not see the letters or numbers as you type, you will see ****, instead. This is to keep your password private. Click next to continue. You do not need to worry about any other options on this window.

7. Now we are finished our e-mail setup as the picture below shows. Click next to finish.

8. This is what your accounts page should look with the addition of your new account.
